Miracle Monday: Will
Happy #MiracleMonday!
We’re kicking November off with 8-year-old, Will. Will and his family are from Columbia. He was born at full-term with no complications. His mom says he was one of the happiest and most easygoing babies.
At six months, Will’s parents noticed that he was not meeting his developmental milestones. After raising concerns with their pediatrician, they were referred to a developmental specialist. Just before his first birthday, Will was diagnosed with a rare disorder, partial agenesis of the corpus callosum. The corpus callosum is a part of the brain; partial agenesis means there is a an absence (agenesis) of an areas of the brain that connects the two cerebral hemispheres. Will’s condition impacts the part of the brain that helps coordinate motor function and speech.
Will has speech, occupational, and physical therapy sessions each week at Children’s Hospital’s Children’s Therapy Center. He works with his team on speech and language development, and improving muscle strength and coordination. The Children’s Therapy Center is specially equipped to treat kids, like Will, and has received donations from Children’s Miracle Network. Those donations help ensure that kids all over mid-Missouri have the therapy space they need to improve.
Will loves his team at the Children’s Therapy Center and continues to make progress every day. His infectious smile and positive attitude make him an inspiring Miracle Kid!
